Courses available nationwide
To answer the question most frequently asked, you do NOT need to be an electrician to carry out PAT testing.
In theory, anyone can carry out PAT testing provided that they have the appropriate knowledge on how to perform the task safely. Undertaking a professional PAT training course is widely recognised as the best option for obtaining this knowledge and competency.
Even if you have little or no prior electrical knowledge, our PAT training course will provide you with all you need to know to carry out PAT testing. This includes everything from basic electrical principles to the theoretical and legal aspects of appliance testing, alongside plenty of practical and hands-on training in using PAT equipment, performing visual inspections and record keeping.
Our PAT training course is held nationwide, with venues situated close to major cities, and we also offer on-site training delivered at your premises. Please visit our dedicated page for further information regarding On-Site PAT Courses.
Our PAT training course is ideal for anyone looking to bring their PAT testing in-house to save costs on external contractors or for individuals looking to provide a PAT testing service to other companies.
We train people from many different industries and roles, including caretakers, maintenance staff, office/clerical workers, landlords, charity shop workers… basically anyone in a workplace with electrical appliances and equipment.
Since 2004 we have taught thousands of individuals to undertake appliance testing for themselves and we will ensure that you have enough time to ask questions regarding your own PAT testing requirements.
To deliver PAT training to the highest possible standard, we train in compliance with the 5th Edition of “In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment” by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). This is widely recognised as the national guideline for PAT testing and we offer all attendees a copy of the IET Code of Practice at a reduced cost of £50 when booking the course. While recommended, if you do not wish to purchase the publication we will provide a copy for use during the course.
You do not need to own a PAT tester to attend the course. We provide a selection of different PAT testers for use on the day. If you do already own a PAT tester, you are welcome to bring this along, our tutors can help familiarise you with the operation of your PAT tester as well.
Each PAT course will have a maximum of 10 participants ensuring that everyone will be provided with individual support throughout the day from our experienced tutors.
The course features three open-book assessments to help monitor the progress of candidates and ensure appropriate competency. Successful candidates will receive a Certificate of Competency in PAT Testing.
The following topics are covered during the course:
Our tutors are all seasoned electrical operatives, each having over 30 years of experience within the electrical and training industries.
